Relay

Sat March 28 2025 (morning)

Team event. Teams of 3 to 6 paddlers, sharing 1 same board only. Minimum 10 years old for the relay race.

Route: Same 21km as the half marathon solo race the following day. The only difference from the 21km solo race is that there will not be any water or food at the Checkpoints for the relay race. Teams are responsible for bringing their own.

21km total, divided into 6 sections:

Each team paddler must paddle 1, or 2 sections consecutively. Each team will have its own boat and driver and will be responsible to manage its own relay handovers.

We expect most paddlers to use this fun team relay event to familiarize themselves with the conditions and with parts of the course they will be paddling the following morning during their solo races.

Relay Rules

  • Each team has its own boat with driver and marshall/radio man
  • Each team will have a letter name (Team A, B, C…). Team board will show stickers on both sides displaying that letter.
  • Team boats don’t have a roof, so prepare for that.
  • Team decides its own strategy (dropping all paddlers at their start CPs first or 1 by one)
  • Boat is allowed to follow their paddler (extra safety/visibility. Recommended for Section1, with heavy boat traffic)
  • Boat is not allowed to create advantageous wake for their paddler. Risk of direct team elimination.
  • 6 sections. 6 paddlers. 1 section each paddler.
  • If a team has less than 6 paddlers (minimum 3), some paddlers will do maximum 2 sections, but these must then be consecutive sections.
  • If a paddler needs to stop midway through his section (sick or just tired), he can only be replaced by the previous or the next paddler in the order.
  • Only one such mid-section replacement is allowed per team for the whole race.
  • Water/nutrition: there will be no supplies at the CPs for the relay race. Bring everything you will need. Put extra water in your boat.
  • In case of the weather severely deteriorating, the race will be stopped, boats will pick up their paddler and get back to base immediately.
  • Drafting another paddler is allowed (but not another boat).
  • WhatsApp Live location. As an additional tracking/safety precaution, those of you who have a WhatsApp number will be tracked via Live Location.
